What we do
Ray of light is non profit organisation that helps children in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. We work to break the cycle of poverty. Our main aim is to provide children with opportunities that would not otherwise be available to them. The main reason why the poverty continues in the country is because children are not getting an education. By gaining an education, these children have a greater chance of finding employment and breaking the cycle of poverty.
These are some facts.
-One in five adults in the developing world which is almost about 862 million people, can’t read or write due to lack of education.
-More than 226 million children do not attend secondary school.
Children miss out on their education because:
-They are made to work to support their families.
-Their families do not have money to pay for school.
-In most developing countries, public school is not free. The cost of books, uniform, and teachers’ salaries are payed by students’ families
We are helping through two main areas: Education, Medical and Health. We currently support 17 young adults and cover the cost of their food, and education.
In addition to educational programs, Ray of Light Cambodia has also been involved in health checks, immunisations and dental work for all of the children that need it.
